Frankfurt Preview: Volkswagen presents the BlueMotion Polo, Golf and Passat

Vw Bluemotion Polo Passat Golf

The world's most fuel-efficient models in their respective size classes, according to Volkswagen, will be displayed at the Frankfurt Auto Show, which opens in less than two weeks. Volkswagen is eager to show the BlueMotion flavors of the Polo, Golf and Passat at the show. The Polo BlueMotion produces a maximum power of 75 PS and burns just 3.3 liters of diesel per 100 km (71.2 mpg). Emission ratings are reported to be around 87 g/km, a 20% reduction. Meanwhile, the Golf BlueMotion produces 105 PS and returns a fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100km (61.9 mpg). The four-cylinder engine that generates 250 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm releases 99 grams of CO2 every kilometer and helps the car accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds. Maximum speed is 190 km/h. Lastly, the Passat BlueMotion develops 105 PS, with the common rail TDI unit releasing 114 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Fuel consumption goes as low as 4.4 l/100km (53.4 mpg), with the car being able to run from 0-60mph in 12.5 seconds. Other brilliant BlueMotion features include energy recovery (regenerative braking), a Start-Stop system (automatic engine shutoff, such as at red lights), tires optimized for low rolling resistance, especially lightweight low-drag wheels, improved fine tuning of body aerodynamics and a lower chassis (Polo and Golf). Expect the Passat BlueMotion to arrive in dealerships later this year. The Golf will arrive in late fall of this year.
