French government will get a seat on Renault strategic committee

The French government will get a seat on the strategic committee of Renault SA, according to Industry Minister Christian Estrosi who gave the statement last Sunday in Nice where he is mayor. Estrosi said that it was decided that the state as shareholder will be on the strategic committee for the future industrial policy of Renault. Over the weekend, a meeting participated in by President Nicolas Sarkozy, Estrosi, Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn and his deputy, Patrick Pelata, took place to discuss plans to make most units of its next Clio subcompact at a factory in Turkey rather than a plant in France.
After the hour-long meeting, Ghosn revealed that the new Clio will be built in Flins, France, and Bursa, Turkey. No details were given of the split but he asserted that the employment would be maintained. Ghosn spoke with the Parisien daily on Sunday. Ghosn said that that production of the Clio in Flins would be similar to the number of Clios sold in France, emphasizing that most of the production will take place in Bursa.
France has a 15.01% stake in Renault and has two representatives on the non-executive board. Of the 330,500 Clios made in 2009, Renault sold about 146,000 Clio cars in France. The current car is made in Flins, Bursa, as well as Novo Mesto, Slovenia, and Valladolid, Spain. The fourth-generation Clio will go on sale starting in 2013.
