By the end of 2011, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. (new Volvo owner) will phase out the Geely car brand as part of efforts to strengthen its other three brands.

However, Geely will be kept as the company name. Currently, only three models are marketed under the Geely brand: Freedom Ship, Kingkong and Vision. All three are compact cars.

A GM spokesperson said that after getting upgrades, these models will be sold under other brands next year. It was in 1997 that Geely began producing cars under the Geely brand. In 2008, three more brands were launched: Emgrand, Global Eagle and Englon.

These three are marketed differently. Emgrand is for family use, Global Eagle is for young people, and Englon is primarily for London Taxi and mid-sized sedans for business use. J.D. Power and Associates said that sales from January to July this year were recorded as follows: Geely (138,840 units), Emgrand (34,988 units), Global Eagle (24,921 units) and Englon (24,481 units).
