General Motors to build the $4,000 car

Intended to rival Tata's Nano, General Motors's $4,000 ultra low-cost model would be manufactured in Asia and will be sold in local markets.

General Motors, however, doesn't plan to bring the low-cost car to the US or Europe. Nick Reilly, GM's newly installed executive vice president, international operations, said that the car is meant for a very specific market that has different emissions standards and specifications from the US and Brazil.

He added that the company isn't quite planning to make cars that cheap in those regions.
