General Motors to close the Opel plant in Antwerp

Many insider sources have said that General Motors Co. will proceed with closing the Opel plant in Antwerp.
Ever since GM decided not to sell Vauxhall/Opel, the fate of the plant has been under review and its 2,300 workers were hoping for a stay of execution. GM wants to reduce its European capacity by around one-fifth, shaving off 8,000 jobs in all.
A source said that Opel CEO Nick Reilly has announced that the Antwerp plant will be shut down.
However, last Tuesday, a GM Europe spokesman had said that no final decision on the Antwerp factory has been made. [via autocar]
