Geneva Motor Show: 2009 Vw Polo breaks cover

2009 Vw PoloThe fifth-generation VW Polo, which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, comes with Scirocco and Mk6 Golf inspired styling, ultra-economical gasoline and diesel powerplants producing 74mpg and emitting only 96g/km of CO2. Compared with the present model, the latest Polo is more spacious and more athletic. Based on the platform of the new Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia, it has bumped its size to 3.952 meters and 1.682 meters and compared to the retiring variant, it is 36mm longer and 32mm broader. The distinctive styling element of the Polo is its new front face appearance which is focused on a full-breadth lower grill and a narrower upper cavity. Combined, they broaden the car‚ stance. With bigger outside dimensions providing broader and longer cabin thus enhancing leg and should room compared to the present version. Although the new Polo is 13mm lower than the preceding model, more headroom is claimed. Luggage space has also been increased with 280 liters or 952 liters with the rear seats down. Engine lineup in the UK will be 1.2 liter 3-cylinder motors with 58bhp or 68bhp, both of which comes with a fuel-economy rating of 51mpg and 128g/km of CO2. Also included in the engine lineup is a 1.6-liter common-rail TDI diesel that yields either 73bhp or 87bhp, and both of which also come with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Fuel economy and emission ratings are 67mpg and 109g/km of CO2 respectively. The range-topping economy model is the BlueMOtion which comes with additional lineup of economy-related technologies such as longer gearing in the third, fourth and fifth, which aims at improving economy over the 1.6 TDI to 74mph and 96g/km CO2 emission. VW is also going to preview the next-generation eco-Polo which claims to generate 85mpg rating and only 87g/km CO2 emission and is set to arrive next year. The performance Polo, until a GTI version appears on the scene, will be propelled by a soft-turbo 102bhp 1.4 TSI gasoline engine with a 6-speed manual as standard. Further option on the 82bhp 1.4 will include a 7-speed, dual-clutch DSG gearbox. Together with the latest Golf, the interior of the Polo has likewise stepped up. Major improvements include the soft-touch plastics and the new backlit instrument dials. High-end alloy trim embellishments also add high-quality feel to the interior. Other interior options include a striking touch-screen sat-nav and MP3 connectivity. The car will begin production this July and deliveries will begin by October in UK. Prices will, on the average, be 500 Pounds over the preceding models.
