Porsche’s 911 Turbo S version made its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show and will arrive at showrooms this May. Powering the 911 Turbo is a biturbo 3.8 liter direct injection boxer six cylinder engine that offers an extra 30hp to 530 HP (390 kW). It offers 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque but on overboost, it can go up to as high as 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). Being a part of the Turbo lineup known for its practicality, this car offers an excellent array of features that come standard with all the “normal” 911 Turbo’s optional high-tech equipment. When the 530hp is released from the 911 Turbo S’ boxer that rides on Dynamic Engine Mounts, it passes through the compulsory seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double clutch gearbox and is controlled by the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system. When necessary, Porsche’s Torque Vectoring (PTV) system applies its mechanical differential lock on the rear axle.
With the Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package, the Turbo S is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h time in 3.3 seconds, while the first 200 km/h can be achieved in 10.8 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be 315 km/h (195 mph). Controlling this much power is the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). You’d be surprised of this car’s fuel consumption; the S version returns the same combined cycle 11.4 litres/100 km (24.8 mpg imperial) figure as the “standard” turbo. The arrival of the 997 generation’s only Turbo S has been anticipated for more than 5 years. That is why Porsche made sure that it will meet the high expectations. The supercar is fitted with 19-inch RS spyder central locking wheels, a three-spoke performance steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a cd/dvd changer and bespoke two-tone leather upholstery available in black/crema or black/titanium Blue finishes. The 911 Turbo S is offered as a coupe and as a cabriolet. The 997 911 Turbo S coupe has a price tag of 173,241 euros (VAT included) while the cabriolet retails for 184,546 euros (VAT included).
