Geneva Motor Show: 2011 Volvo S60

2011 Volvo S60The 2011 Volvo S60 was finally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. This vehicle marks Volvo’s first step into the CD Premium car segment. Volvo has provided this car with a wide array of the latest features in safety, infotainment and performance.

The new S60 is offered in 5 petrol engines and 3 diesel units. However, the first batches will be available with two petrol engines – a 3.0l T6, which is capable of 304 bhp/440 Nm; and 2.0T, which offers 203 bhp/300 Nm. It also comes in two diesel engines – 2.4 D5, which can produce 205 bhp/420 Nm; and 2.0 D3, which generates 163 bhp/400 Nm. Later this year, Volvo will offer the following petrol engines: 2.0 T5 (240 bhp/320 Nm), 1.6 T4 (180 bhp/240 Nm) and 1.6 T3 (150 bhp/240 Nm). Continued after the jump!


The last diesel unit — the 1.6 D DRIVe (115 bhp/270 Nm) will be available late in the year. Volvo is proud of the fact that the S60 is the first sedan model on the market with Advanced Stability Control.

Due to its new roll angle sensor, the ASC allows the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) to be activated faster and with greater precision.

The S60 also has the Corner Traction Control, which is a system that uses torque vectoring to enable the car to take the corners more easily and eliminating the risk of understeering as much as possible.

Offered as standard on the Volvo is the Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake. With this system, collisions with a pedestrian at speeds of up to 35 km/h can be avoided.

The S60 also has the City Safety system, which makes the car automatically brake when detecting a possible collision with the vehicle in front.
