In an attempt to guarantee a sporty yet eco-friendly future, Mitsubishi iMiEV Sport Air could very well be the answer to a gasoline-free future. Derived from rear-midship Electric Vehicle platform, the Sport Air is a shiny two-seater that has a subtle similarity with a squashed VW Beetle. It comes with a clear detachable roof for driving enjoyment and a lower center of gravity. To reduce the curb weight of the car plastic panels are utilized, while the battery and other components are located lower in the chassis.

Consequently, the car generates more power from a potent synchronous permanent magnetic electric unit is fitted providing the Sport Air with 60hp, a 13hp increase over the previous model. Having received some revisions, the iMiEV Prototype demonstrates that the carmaker is set on a production model.

The current iMiEV on display is near to the car that will be introduced by 2010 in the markets of Europe. The Japanese version available for sale this summer include the following revisions: broadened front and rear tracks and increased overhangs both at the front and back, for the purpose helping the car meet pedestrian-protection regulations of Europe. Adjustments to the styling provide the iMiEV prototype a unique front face. For more stability and space enhancement, the fully electric iMiEV's motor and battery pack are mounted in a midship arrangement.
