Volvo Car introduces the exclusive four-seat XC90 Excellence during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Touted as the most luxurious car in the carmakers’ 89-year history, the XC90 Excellence’s appearance at the show marks its European debut and is seen to strengthen Volvo’s image as a premium car manufacturer.
Based on the award-winning XC90SUV, the new car features an elegant interior covered in leather, finest upholstery and handcrafted crystal glasses from Orrefors of Sweden. In addition, passengers are pampered by the individual, adjustable rear seats that have a massage function as well as headrests designed for maximum comfort.
A refrigerator, two folding tables and cup holders that are capable of heating or cooling depending on passenger’s need are only some of the features that add to its premium comfort offering. Volvo’s new design approach called modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) seems to work well for the company with the new XC90 Excellence being the most recent product of the new system.
The car comes with the award-winning T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain, which offers three modes of driving for the car – Pure, Hybrid and Power. Due to the hybrid technology, the XC90 Excellence can harness an impressive 410 hp from the system with its additional bonus of very low emission.
Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo Cars Bjorn Annwall states that the XC90 Excellence offers a luxurious, even sublime, experience. Adding further elegance and convenience to the car is the available Bowers and Wilkins sound system with rear-seat controls as well as additional sound insulation.
For the moment, the XC90 Excellence is only available for online orders and only in selected markets. This represents a growing marketing effort for Volvo and comes after the First Edition XC90, with its limited and individually numbered 1,927 units produced which were sold only online via the company’s website www.volvocars.com.
Surprisingly, all units were sold within 48 hours back in 2014. The total 1,927 cars produced represent the year that the company was founded. The selected markets where the new XC90 Excellence is being sold online include Switzerland, France, Belgium and Luxembourg with plans to add China this spring.
Volvo clarifies that the new luxury car may be ordered via dealerships in other markets such as the United States later this year. Bjorn Annwall added that the online selling method used by Volvo for its initial offering of the new XC90 Excellence is an example of how Volvo can quickly adopt to new customer trends. Volvo recognizes the value of digital commerce platform and plans to use it more often in future car offerings.
