At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March, we will be seeing SEAT's new range of Ibiza Ecomotive, an updated lineup especially aimed at cutting emissions and fuel consumption. Powering the series is a 1.2-liter TDI engine, which will generate 75hp and 180 Nm of torque. This engine is similar to the one installed on the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion.
When it comes to fuel consumption, initial figures point to 3.3 liters per 100 km (71.2 mpg), with emissions going as low as 87 grams of CO2 per kilometer. On Polo BlueMotion, the three-cylinder TDI engine comes with a 22% fuel economy improvement (or 0.9 liters) as compared to the standard Polo powered by a TDI unit with 75 hp.
CO2 emissions were also recorded to have dropped from 109 to 87 g/km. Autoblog.it reported that the Ibiza 1.2 TDI Ecomotive will be available in all bodystyle configurations, including the 5- and the 3-door versions plus the ST variant.
At Geneva, we will also see the Ibiza ST, a model based on the IBZ Concept showcased in Frankfurt back in September. Expect full specs to be released before the public unveiling in March. Sales of this model begin in 2010.
The Ibiza Ecomotive from Seat is now part of the growing range of cars that are both environment-friendly and affordable. Figures show that the Ibiza Ecomotive returns 94.2 mpg when under the extra urban cycle while for the combined cycle, it has a 71.2 mpg rating.
Greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2, were measured at 87 g/km. At this level, it means that this offering from SEAT is now exempted from being assessed with the Road Tax in UK, making it truly the best for its class.
However, just because the Ibiza Ecomotive is affordable does not mean that customers get the low end when it comes to equipment. The standard features of the Ibiza include an electric front window, trip computer and air conditioning. For those who love to listen to music, there is also a six-speaker AM/FM radio, an AUX-in connection, and CD player that can also play MP3’s.
Two body styles are available for the Ibiza Ecomotive -- the SC and 5dr – with a starting price of £12,355 RRP. Furthermore, the two versions are the Leon ecomotive and the seven-seater Alhambra Ecomotive. SEAT though showed other features of this green lineup during the recently concluded Frankfurt Motor Show.
