More eco-friendly vehicles will be showcased next week at the Geneva Motor Show than there ever was. One of these eco-cars, the Magna Steyr Mila EV Concept, which will be exhibited by the Austrian carmaker Magna Steyr, is a compact car powered by a lithium-ion battery that can reach full charge capacity in just 2.5 hours. It comes with 67hp (49kW) via its motor and can reach a range of 150km (93 miles).
As promising as this may sound, Magna has no intention of producing this car. It rather hopes that there will be buyers of the Mila EV's components.
One of these customers have been identified to be Ford, which has announced a partnership deal with Magna at the 2009 Detroit event to produce a 0-emission EV to be introduced in 2011. Numerous Magna-Ford powertrain components will be developed and built by Magna, a company owned by the Canadian Magna International. These components include the electric motor, transmission, batteries and control elements. [via worldcarfans]
