Throwing her full support to Magna International's bid for Opel/Vauxhall, German chancellor Angela Merkel said that if necessary, she will intervene personally to make it win the deal. In an interview on RTL television, Merkel said that the German government is in constant talks with Magna. Rival RHJ International is preferred by General Motors due to a proposal that's been described as easier to implement and will not have any issues with intellectual property rights. The German government has a significant say since it will provide financing to the winning company. Magna's bid leads to fewer job losses. [via autocar]
