Germany wants a million electric cars on the streets by 2020

Mini EIf Germany‚ plan is realized, there would be about a million cars on German roadways by 2020. Apparently, Germany is serious about the switch to electric cars. Chancellor Angela Merkel's Cabinet is currently drafting the plan that would make this possible. Provided in the plan is a series of financial incentives that would start in 2012. Details of the stimulus package will be announced in the fall. It is speculated that manufacturers, suppliers and consumers would receive incentives to build or purchase Evs. It‚ commonly known that German automakers have trailed behind the Asian and American automakers in the production of electric and hybrid vehicles. Instead the German automakers have been focusing on diesel technology. BMW is currently conducting large-scale testing for its first MINI-based Evs. Meanwhile, Daimler has recently partnered with Tesla Motors in America to advance its EV presence. [via autobloggreen]
