GM cancels right-hand drive (RHD) Chevrolet Camaro for the U.K.

The plan to make available the right-hand drive variant of the Chevrolet Camaro for the UK in the 2011 launching has been cancelled by GM. It was reported that besides the cancellation of the right-hand drive Camaro, GM will be showing fewer cars as first learned. The culprit behind this decision is no other than the ongoing economic downturn the company is facing. Only 100 Camaros will be imported, 50 of which will be coupes and the other 50 convertibles.

This is to ensure that they pass the threshold for type-approval restrictions. Camaros going to the UK will receive the 500 hp 6.2-liter V8 Corvettte powerplant, while the US spec entry level 296bhp V6 version will not be offered. Although the import number seems small, Chevrolet hopes it will still make profits due to the 35,000 pound price of the cars, a price much higher than in the US. Chevrolet revealed last month that they have a standing order for the new Camaro in the US of 10,000 units.
