GM CEO Ed Whitacre wants more sales! Now!

The reorganizations of General Motors Co.'s sales and marketing divisions are fueled only be one thing -- Ed Whitacre's aim to sell more cars now, according to insider sources. Instead of discussing how sales will improve next year, Whitacre wants higher sales immediately and he intends to maintain the pressure until he gets those figures. So far, there have been several firings and there had been the decision to reinstate hundreds of rejected dealerships. Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, said GM "is not moving fast enough, with enough success." He explained that the performance of the reorganized staff will be based on the number of vehicles that are sold. Last February, Ford Motor Co. overtook GM in US sales for the first time since July 1998. [via autonews]
