The OnStar service that's currently being advertised by General Motors Co. is going global. Earlier this week, GM confirmed its first subscriber in China with the sale of a new Cadillac Seville SLS. To mark its global expansion, GM made a formal announcement about welcoming Mr. Lu Jianping as its first subscriber in China.

OnStar President Walt Dorfstatter said that its years of industry-leading innovation and phenomenal growth result to "provide safety, security and peace of mind across the globe." Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co Ltd., GM's Chinese Operations, will now be responsible for providing the subscriber-based service. This comes with one free year of service with each new OnStar equipped GM vehicle. For the Chinese market, GM means that Mandarin Chinese is an option for the service that is now available nationwide. OnStar provides 14 services in China. This list includes automatic crash response, emergency services, vehicle diagnostics, stolen vehicle location, remote door unlock, turn-by-turn navigation and hands free calling.
