General Motors Co. is not discounting the possibility that it could extend its offer of a 60-day, money-back guarantee for consumers when the marketing program expires at the end of November, says Autonews. GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said that it's "possibly renewable." A couple of weeks ago, GM launched a marketing program that stepped up its advertising and allowed for a money-back guarantee.

The campaign is meant to convince American consumers that GM's products are competitive with the best vehicles from its rivals. Lutz said that GM anticipates that "way under 1 percent," of those who buy new Cadillacs, Chevrolets, GMC or Buick vehicles will return them under the program. The past year wasn't a good one for GM. Toyota Motor Corp. took GM's place as the world's top vehicle-seller and GM underwent a 40-day stay in bankruptcy and emerged owned 61-percent by the U.S. Treasury. So far, Lutz said that GM was pleased with the results of the guarantee program. Reportedly, it had increased the number of consumers who would consider buying a GM vehicle even though it had not boosted sales yet.
