GM could extend Saab deadline as it reviews remaining bids

General Motors Co. has set a deadline of Dec. 31 for the date when it was going to decide on the future of Saab but Saab board member Paul Aakerlund has been quoted by Bloomberg News to have said that "it is not a date that's holy." Aakerlund, who also heads the IF Metall union at Saab, said that GM is willing to wait beyond this date while it reviews remaining bids before deciding.
He said that if GM finds a bid that's interesting, the Dec. 31 decision to wind down Saab can still change. Aakerlund claims that GM told Saab last week about plans to wind down Saab and continue talks with bidders. Victor Muller, CEO of Saab bidder Spyker Cars, continues to be optimistic about his company's chances of getting control of Saab. In an interview with a Swedish daily newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, Muller said that he continues to be very hopeful and that his company has done "all [it] possibly can." [via autonews]
