GM could put to rest Pontiac

There are reports saying that GM could put to rest Pontiac as soon as this coming Monday. The carmaker says that there is nothing to confirm at this time as the Pontiac's niche brand status remains the same until they say differently. The statement is ambiguous and certainly not very positive also. The "niche-brand status" line has already been going around since December last year, when GM began to concentrate on its four main brands:
Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, while preparing the rest -- Saab, Saturn and Hummer -- for either shelving or selling. The focus of Pontiac has been poorly defined in the past decade, with strong products such as the G8 hitting the market together with weaker products like the G3. There were plans to reignite Pontiac's performance legacy or even refocusing the brand to rival the Scion. Despite past intentions, doubtless the Pontiac was already on target and Monday will determine the fate that awaits the brand. [via insideline]
