GM is offering to help pay for the work… with a catch!

Remodeling a dealership costs a lot of money but General Motors Co. is very much willing to pay for it -- that is, if you go by their rules. One of the many guidelines that dealers must agree to is a requirement to separate GM from non-GM brands. The work has a timeframe of three years. GM will be sending out the checks in a span of five to 10 years and the amounts will depend, not on the cost of the upgrades, but on sales. GM has long been trying to convince dealers to provide a separate space for its brands. GM said that after it emerged from bankruptcy, it is focused on creating enticing showrooms that would encourage salespeople to sell GM's brands rather than its competitors. The remodeling plan includes free Wi-Fi, and new exterior entryways and reception desks.
