GM may reposition the redesigned Sierra as its premium pickup

2012 GMC Sierra Denali

General Motors may reposition the redesigned Sierra as its premium pickup to differentiate it from the Chevrolet Silverado. If the repositioning pushes through, Sierra models will have a higher tag price and more standard equipment than Silverado’s, Mark Reuss, GM president of North America, said. Both pickups are currently priced almost the same, with the Silverado cheaper by around $500.

The incentives for the two pickups are also almost the same, Reuss added. "I think you will see equipment and models attacked very differently because we should.”

The company is currently working out on the details of the repositioning, including differences on the options and equipment packages. The company had been successful in implementing the same strategy when it had to differentiate GMC's Terrain and Yukon models from Chevrolet's Equinox, Tahoe and Suburban. [source: Autonews]
