GM names Johan Willems as Opel/Vauxhall communications chief

General Motors Co. veteran executive Johan Willems has been named the new communications boss at the automaker's European unit Opel/Vauxhall. He will be replacing Susanne Wegerhoff, who will be leaving the company according to Opel. Willems will leave his previous role as chief of GM's worldwide communications in China. He joins the management board of Opel, overseeing all product, corporate, internal and brand communications at Opel/Vauxhall in Europe. Twenty years ago, Willems started his career with Opel in Antwerp. From 1996 to 2007, he was based in Ruesselsheim, Germany, as chief of Opel/Vauxhall and GM Europe's brand and product communications. He then transferred to another role as head of worldwide environmental and advanced propulsion communications at GM's headquarters in Detroit. In 2009, he headed GM's international communications in Shanghai, China.
