GM planning to sell the Chevrolet Volt on eBay

Expect bidding for the Chevrolet Volt petrol-electric hybrids to begin soon on eBay. A trial of the scheme will be conducted in California before it goes national. Since the Chevrolet Volt is built at a loss due to its complex and expensive technology, offering it at eBay would allow GM to sell it a higher price, as demand is anticipated to exceed the supply. Talks are still ongoing between GM and eBay and it's reported that there are a few more details to work on. Chevrolet brand manager Ed Peper said that an official launch of the scheme is expected in the coming weeks. Pre-production tests of the Volt have recently started in the US and it is scheduled to reach dealerships in 2010.
