General Motors has taken back its announcement last week to cancel its annual September truck sale. Calling it a 'competitive response' to Ford's own truck sale, GM spokesman John McDonald revealed that the event will now run from Sept. 25 through Nov. 2. The sale will include GMC and Chevrolet brands although they will have separate campaigns. When marketing chief Bob Lutz announced that the truck sale wasn't pushing through, he had explained that GM wanted to focus on its "May the Best Car Win" image campaign instead. According to the memo sent to dealers, GM is expected to put an extra $1,000 cash on several GMC 2010 pickups, SUVs and crossovers, including the Buick Enclave.
GM is expected to put $500 on the 2009 and 2010 models of the GMC Canyon pickup. With regards to Chevrolet, the sale is on all trucks and the 2010 Malibu sedan. All 2009 Silverados and Colorado pickups and the 2010 Malibu will have 0 percent financing for 60 months. GM will also put $1,500 cash on the 2010 Malibu and $1,000 on the 2010 Impala sedan, Traverse crossover, Tahoe and Suburban SUVs and Avalanche and Silverado pickups.
In an interview, Tommy Brasher, owner of Brasher Motor Co. in Weimar, Texas, said that since not a lot of 2010 models are in stock then it's possible the interest fueled by the campaign would bring in customers who might then buy cars that they do have in stock. He believes he has a 30-day supply of 2009 and 2010 trucks. McDonald added that GM will offer 0 percent financing for 60 months making it an official "truck month" but mostly for advertising purposes.
