GM preparing to release new models sooner than expected
To counter losses in market share, General Motors is reintroducing leasing of select GM models and releasing new models sooner than expected. Last month, GM sales were down 19.4% and market share decreased from 20.5% to 18.9%. GM Chairman Ed Whitacre said that it will move up some vehicle introductions but specific models were not stated.
GM’s elimination of brands Saturn, Saab, Hummer, and Pontiac surely contributed to the decline in its market share. To counter that, GM will be fast-tracking production of new models. Obvious candidates are the Chevrolet Cruze and the subcompact Chevrolet Viva.
