GM recalling 16,000 Chevrolet Impala and Buick LaCrosse in U.S., Canada

Because of sensor and power steering problems, General Motors Co. has announced the recall of 16,198 Chevrolet Impala and Buick LaCrosse cars in the U.S. and Canada. GM said that it hasn’t received any report that people who got injured or were involved in a crash for the defect that lead to the two recalls. In addition, GM Is recalling 11,905 2012 Impalas to check if the power steering hose was installed properly.
GM said that if the hose is misrouted, it could be damaged and it may spray fluid on hot engine parts, which raises the risk for a fire. GM detected this flaw during production at the Oshawa, Ontario, plant, where the car is being assembled. GM said that the hose will be replaced by dealers and if the hose isn’t routed properly, abrasion will be added. Of the total number of affected Impalas, 10,334 are located in the U.S. and the rest are located in Canada.
In addition, GM is recalling 4,293 2012 LaCrosses to reprogram the electronic brake control module since an incorrect calibration may result to the electronic stability system failing to detect a sensor malfunction and not having a warning light. GM said that if a sensor malfunctions, the driver will be able to assert the car's driving path and speed. GM said dealers will reprogram the module. Of the total number of LaCrosses included in the recall, 4,077 are in the U.S. while the rest come from Canada.
