Adding to the troubles GM is already being plagued with, is the recall order for 1,497,516 cars beginning 1997 to 2003 which have been found out to have a glitch that could cause engine fire in certain situations. During hard braking, oil may leak onto the exhaust manifold which may drip down to the portion of the manifold that is not shielded from heat, ignite and consequently ignite the plastic spark plug wire channel, and so on. The models affected are Chevrolet Luminas, Monte Carlos and Impalas and Oldsmobile Intrigues built between the model years 1998 to 2003, Buick Regals built from 1997 to 2003 and Pontiac Grand Prix that comes equipped with the 3.8-liter naturally ventilated V6 unit. Although the recalled cars may be more than a handful, each car will not stay in the shop for far too long because the solution is quite simple. It simply involves the replacement of spark plug wire retention channel and replacing it with two new spark plug wire retainers, thus removing the risk of a fire hazard.
