GM recalls 40,028 Corvettes due to a problem with the steering column

GM Logo

Citing a problem with the steering column, General Motors has announced the recall for 40,028 Corvettes with the 2005 and 2006 model years. The recall involves vehicles manufactured between March 2004 and January 2006 that have a tilt and telescoping steering column. If you have a Corvette, you might want to check out the production date written on a label stuck on the driver's door or doorjamb. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the frequent movement of the steering column could result to a signal interruption within the column. This opens up a display that says "Service Active Handling System." It's possible that this would lead to one or more brakes being applied and this could cause the vehicle to pull to the right or left. If the driver is unable to correct the vehicle's movement, there could be a real crash risk. Car owners will be notified to go to Corvette dealerships to get their vehicles fixed free of charge.
