GM recalls about 60,000 units of the Chevrolet Cruze and Captiva

In South Korea, about 60,000 units of the Chevrolet Cruze and Captiva are expected to be recalled, according to General Motors Co. and the South Korean government. GM Daewoo Auto & Technology officials said that there would also be a recall issued for these cars with the same defects in overseas markets. The company failed to indicate which countries would soon be announcing the recall but it's well-known that the cars are sold in Europe and Russia.
Reuters spoke with an unnamed GM Daewoo official who said that since each country has different rules and standards, the size and timing of the recalls will depend on their specific circumstances. To date, there has been no statement from GM Daewoo regarding the costs of the recall. A total of 45,957 Captiva SUVs, which are sold as the Winstorm, will be recalled in South Korea due to defects with the steering system, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The recall affects Captivas made between April 1, 2006 and Dec. 31, 2007. On the other hand, 12,604 units of the Cruze compact sedan, which is sold as the Lacetti Premiere, are being recalled due to defects with fuel supply pipes. The recall applies to cars produced between Sept. 25, 2009 and March 2, 2010. [via autonews]
