GM to build the new Cadillac small sedan at the Grand River Assembly plant

According to the latest reports, it appears that General Motors will announce Thursday that it will build a new compact-sized Cadillac at the Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing. The $190 million investment which will add 600 jobs, is expected to announce the new Cadillac ATS, a new car smaller than the Cadillac CTS and similar to the money-losing BLS sold in Europe. With the Grand River investment, General Motors will have pumped more than $3 billion in 20 United States plants. This means that a total of 7,350 jobs were created since emerging from bankruptcy 14 months ago.
"This is a huge boost to our manufacturing sector, that they have chosen to build a new small Cadillac here, and it's clearly great for Lansing. It's great for General Motors and it's great for Michigan," said U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton.
It seems that Cadillac announcement will be the latest in a series of new products and investments made by General Motors. The manufacturer is also expected to give more details regarding its initial public stock offering in mid-November. Regarding the Grand River Assembly investment, it appears that GM CEO Daniel Akerson (who became CEO on September 1), will get a 45-minute tour of the plant before the announcement.
