This week, General Motors Co. will begin shipping repair parts to fix sticking accelerators in the Pontiac Vibe crossover, the sister of the Toyota Matrix. The Vibe, which is made by the former joint venture between GM and Toyota Motor Corp., is included in Toyota's recall last month of 2.3 million vehicles for sticking pedals. GM will mail notices to Vibe owners on Feb. 16, informing them to get in touch with GM dealers after Feb. 22 about fixing the pedals. Fixing the defect will take only 30 minutes. GM in its statement said that it would want people to know that there had been no reports filed about stuck accelerators before the recall. Since the announcement, GM had received numerous complaints about jammed pedals but for certain, no crashes have occurred. GM explained that the Vibe's brakes are powerful enough to override a depressed accelerator and halt the car. [via autonews]
