GM will offer owners mobile applications to access their vehicle information

Owners of new 2011 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles mobile applications are now able to access their vehicle information and OnStar services from their smartphones. The mobile applications, which were made possible by General Motors Co. and OnStar, are dubbed myChevrolet and OnStar MyLink. These are offered to Android, iPod and iPhone users as free downloads on android.com and apple.com. In a statement, GM said that these two applications' features fall into three categories: location-based services, vehicle-specific information, and OnStar connectivity.
It was in July that GM had announced plans for the new apps. Those who download the apps will get access to commonly used user manual information on vehicle functions such as instructions for radio-presets, and warning and indicator lights.
Users can use GPS enabled functions to get the location of their vehicle in a parking lot, and ask for roadside assistance or set a service appointment with the nearest Chevrolet dealership. In a statement, Chris Perry, Chevrolet's vice president of marketing, said that this is a “great example” of how the company is focusing on smart technologies that respond to customers' needs.
