GM’s Henderson will not deter the interim Opel boss to deliver a plan

Nick Reilly, the interim Opel boss, stated that the upheaval at the headquarters of General Motors Co. that had led to the ouster of CEO Fritz Henderson will not deter him from pursuing his plan for the European carmaker to achieve sustained profitability. Reilly said that he is sticking to his timetable, which has him set to present a plan for Opel/Vauxhall's future by the middle of December.
Reilly wrote further in a blog published last Wednesday that the ongoing restructuring of Opel will not be affected. He also expressed confidence that his management has the support of the board of directors to move fast with a plan for the successful future of Opel/Vauxhall. Reilly said that he is consulting with Opel's various stakeholders, above all employee representatives, in the belief that the plan will only work with their support. With regards to reductions in staffing or capacity, he said that it will depend on economic criteria and will be discussed with the various stakeholders as well. In an apparent retort to critics of GM's centralized management structure, Reilly emphasized that Opel would enjoy a greater measure of authority, responsibility and accountability within the group.
