General Motors’ next generation of pickups will not anymore be available with hybrid engines, according to a new report. GM began to offer pickups with hybrid engines in 2007. According to GM Inside News, insiders have confirmed that the next generation of SUVs and trucks will stop being available with hybrids with the exception of the Cadillac Escalade. The vehicles that will lose the hybrid powertrain are the Chevrolet Silverado and Tahoe, and the GMC Sierra and Yukon. These models all offer about 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. However, GM North American President Mark Ruess went to twitter to address these rumors. He tweeted that these are “new lows in headlines from some rumor stated as fact. Unbelievable. Lazy, silly, and sad. Bottom barrel.” General Motors’ electrification division declined to comment, except to say that it won’t share future product information. It’s not known yet what will happen to these hybrid trucks. It’s speculated that GM will soon have new tech that could rival Ford’s EcoBoost, or the Ram’s eight-speed transmission in terms of fuel economy. GM has recently revealed that its systems can achieve an average of 54.5 mpg so it won’t make sense for GM to withdraw them. [source: GMInsideNews]
