Great Wall Motor plans to start overseas expansion

Roewe 550Within the next three years, China‚ Great Wall Motor Co. will begin to assemble vehicles from kits in Europe, Africa, the Philippines, South America and Malaysia. In late September, vehicle assembly is slated to begin in Senegal. The Philippines will follow later this year. A company spokesman confirmed that operations will begin at plants in Bulgaria, Venezuela and Malaysia before the end of 2013. These plants will start with the production of Great Wall's Hover SUV and Wingle pickup but will produce sedans later on. All of these five plants will be joint ventures with local companies that will distribute Great Wall's vehicles. Great Wall is currently in talks about the feasibility of production joint ventures with companies in South Africa, Brazil, Turkey and Thailand. Great Wall now operates assembly plants in Russia, Indonesia, Iran, Vietnam and Egypt. In the first half of this year, Great Wall was able to sell over 170,000 vehicles, up by almost 88% year-on-year. About 30,000 units of the sales total were exports, a 51% jump from a year earlier.
