Hennessey announces HPE550 Chevrolet Camaro

Hennessey HPE550 Chevrolet Camaro

Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE), a tuning specialist based in Texas has announced its intention for an extensively revised 705hp (526kW) variant of the latest 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which it intends to showcase early in 2010. For those who find 700+hp extreme, Hennessey also offers a tamer 562hp (419kW) variant. It is called the HPE550, a limited edition Camaro that has joined other powerful bespoke cars such as the recently introduced Godzilla 700 Nissan GT-R and a series of "Venom" Dodge Vipers, and appropriately fits in the vacancy left by the shelved Z28.

The car will come with the regular LS3 V8 from the top-of-the-range SS model but with the addition of a Manguson supercharger and stainless steel Corsa sports exhaust system, power yield has raised to 562hp (419kW) at 6200rpm and torque rated at 557lb-ft (754Nm) at 4200rpm. Continued after the jump! Included in the revisions are new fuel injectors, high-flow intake, aluminum wheels and bespoke aerodynamic pack.

The HPE550 Camaro can reach 60mph from standstill in 3.9 seconds and finish the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds at a 119mph trap speed, according to the tuner. Of course, the high performance ratings also come with high price tags. The kit alone, excluding installation, costs $18,950 on top of the $31,000 base price of the Camaro SS. The installation fee is $24,950 which includes a half-day performance driving tutorial at the drag strip of Lonestar Motorsports Park located near the tuner's Houston workshop.
