Select fleet customers will be offered Nissan's first mass-market electric vehicle, the 2011 Leaf, this December. A few months after, Hertz will be making the EV available in its US and European rental fleets. Mark P. Frissora, Hertz chairman and chief executive officer, said that the partnership with Nissan seals Hertz's commitment to green-car rentals. In addition, it firmly demonstrates the Company's mission to advance "zero-emission mobility on a global scale."

Frissora added that by making the Hertz Green Collection available to its customers, Nissan is "continuously providing innovative mobility solutions to sustain the growing demand for eco-travel." The Green Collection offers the Nissan Altima Hybrid, along with Toyota's Prius and Camry hybrids. Because of the 100-mile range limit, the Leaf will only be rented in cities that have a charging infrastructure.

Nissan sees this rental option to be an excellent opportunity for consumers to test the Leaf before deciding to pay $30,000 for the EV. Toshiyuki Shiga, Nissan's chief operating officer, said that the partnership with Hertz is an important step towards its goal of making electric vehicles widely accepted.
