As part of Honda’s global operation reform, it will introduce initiatives to attain greater local input to better respond to the needs of local customers and to boost efficiencies by expanding economies of scales in global sourcing and production. Last September 21, Honda’s CEO Ito said that Honda has to deal with the needs of its global customers by evolving and developing its global production operation. Honda of the UK Manufacturing has confirmed its production activities for the future in line with these objectives and included in its global operation reform. So at the Paris Motor Show, Honda Motor Europe’s President, Manabu Nishimae, confirmed that it will introduce two new Civic-based models to the market.
These are the Civic Type R and the all new Civic Wagon model, an estate version of Honda’s Civic five door model. Honda said that HUM will produce both of the new models. HUM is already exclusively producing the Civic five door, which is being exported all over Europe and worldwide. The plant’s efficiencies will improve further with the addition of these two new Civic derivatives to HUM’s production schedule.
As part of Honda’s localization activities, the development and design of the Civic Wagon is being locally implemented in the European region. Presently, the Suzuka Factory in Japan, Honda Automobile Company China (CHAC) and HUM are producing the Jazz model for the Europe market. So that Honda will benefit from production economies of scale and to fully make use of Honda’s global production resources, the next generation Jazz will be assembled outside of Europe. Jazz is scheduled for 2014.
