Honda bringing an electric car in U.S. by 2015
While Honda Motor Co. admits that it is currently developing an electric car, it did not confirm nor deny reports that a prototype would be revealed during this October’s Tokyo Motor Show. Nikkei newspaper further reported that it believes Honda will debut its electric car in the US by around 2015 in response to stricter environmental regulations pushing the demand for zero-emission vehicles.
Nikkei also said that the vehicle will be similar to the size of a minicar. Nissan Motor Co., Japan’s third largest automaker, revealed its electric car, LEAF, this month and plans to sell in the US, Japan and Europe markets by the end of the year. Other automakers, including Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG, have disclosed their plans to launch electric cars within the next few years but they acknowledge that it would take plenty of years for the cars to multiply due to the high cost, limited driving range, and lengthy battery charging times.
