Honda CR-Z to enter GT300 class of the Super GT racing series

Honda CR-Z GT300 Race Car

Honda’s CR-Z, which was developed with M-TEC Co., Ltd., will be competing with Toyota’s Prius Hybrid race car at the GT300 class of the Super GT racing series. Team Mugen will campaign for the CR-Z. But then, don’t expect the hybrid racer to appear until Round 4 of the Super GT Series. Honda hasn’t released the complete set of details yet. So far, it has only confirmed that there would really be a race car and that it will be equipped with a hybrid racing system. Hideki Mutoh has been named to be this project’s development driver. He is famous for having competed in the IndyCar Series and the GT500 class of Super GT. It would take some time before images of the finished project would be released since Round 4 of the Super GT 2012 schedule isn’t until July 30, 2012. Honda said that beginning this year, Honda will enter the GT300 class with a CR-Z that has a racing hybrid system. Honda will support the racing activities of TEAM MUGEN through a joint project with M-TEC Co., Ltd. They hope to participate in GT300 starting on Round 4 (Sportsland SUGO). [source: AutoGuide]
