Honda NSX “Super Hybrid Sports” in the works

Contrary to rumors, the NSX project has not been put on hold. In fact, Honda is moving forward with creating it albeit with a slight change to go for a more environmentally friendly approach. 'Super Hybrid Sports' is what Honda is calling its new project, which according to sources, will be directly competing with Toyota's FT-HS hybrid sports car. The NSX was last seen at Nurburging last year where it impressed with its lap times. Previously indicated to power the NSX was the 600PS 5.5L V10; however, currently slated to be installed is a new powerplant seen to be the next generation 'valveless throttle' 3.5L V6 coupled with a hybrid system (from the next-gen Legend/Acura RL).
It is expected to produce about 450PS that would place it on the same league as the Toyota FT-HS. Honda is hoping to win over Toyota in the fuel efficiency department. Honda will have to work on the expected weight deficit due to the SH-AWD system, which will be bolted to an aluminum platform and feature a rear transaxle just like the R35 Nissan GT-R.
Sources say that the next Honda Legend/Acura RL will have the same platform but will be made of steel. The release date and the pricing have yet to be announced. The NSX was slated for a 2010 debut but the change in direction has pushed it back. Understandably, some fans are questioning whether it was a good decision to replace the V-10, which could have placed the NSX on the same standing as the fierce GT-R. Sound off below.
