Honda preparing Accord-based crossover
There are indications that the US will not be receiving the Accord Euro ‘Tourer’ wagon as initially intended since Honda is currently in the process of developing its latest crossover vehicle that they plan to use over a wider range of segments in its lineup.
The sighted prototype seems to feature an Accord Euro Tourer body with a bolted-on American-spec Accord front. Although this seems to suggest that a US spec Accord Tourer may be upcoming, the broader track and higher ride height apparently point to something else, maybe a new midsized crossover vehicle as many have suggested. From what was observed in the test vehicles the new car comes with an AWD system. The new model will begin production in the last quarter of this year at the company’s East Liberty factory in Ohio, according to the Temple of VTEC forum, and may be in time for this year’s LA Auto Show. Power under the hood will most likely be the latest 2.4-liter and 3.5-liter engines from the Accord, as well as the 2.3-liter turbo from the Acura RDX. Honda does not have a crossover vehicle in this range and the increasing popularity of such vehicles makes it a feasible product to rival the likes of the Toyota Venza and Subaru Legacy wagon in the present market.
