Honda has settled the brake-related class-action suit that was filed over complaints related to premature brake wear on its current-generation Accord and Acura TSX. According to the suit, the rear brake pads on its 2008-09 Accord and 2009 Acura TSX, as well as a small number of 2010 models, have an unreasonably short lifespan of only 15,000 to 20,000 miles. The suit claimed that Honda refused to cover the issue under its new car warranty and a total of 750,000 vehicles may be affected.

At the NHTSA Web site, about 350 owner complaints were filed. To solve the issue, Honda plans to attach redesigned rear brake pads and adjust the braking system. There has been no confirmation if the defect is related to the brake pads or with the brake-force distribution.

The suit claims that the premature wear is a result of the new brake system that includes rear discs and an electronic brake-distribution system, which became standard equipment on the 2008 Accord and 2009 TSX. Like with most settlements, Honda denies the presence of a defect and carries the statement that both parties have acted in good faith.
