China-based Guangqi Honda joint venture posted a slight increase in sales in 2011, to 362,000 vehicles, the Beijing Morning Post reports citing latest statistics. The joint venture was able to post sales growth despite decreased output brought about by the auto component shortage caused by March 2011 Japan. Around half of the vehicles sold were Honda Accords, with 160,735 units disposed.
Due to the positive 2011 results, Guangqi Honda will add two new hybrids to its new 2012 line-up, which will include the Accord, City and Odyssey, according to Autonews Gasgoo.
The joint venture will also commence the production of its Fit pure electric in China by the end of 2012. Guangqi Honda will sell the Fit in Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and other cities with mature electric vehicle markets. Guangqi Honda Sales Director He Xianqing forecasts a ten-percent growth in sales for 2012.
