Honda’s new president says no to rear-wheel drive cars and V8s

Honda's new president Takanobu Ito insists on not introducing rear-wheel drive cars in its lineup despite the disadvantage posed by front-wheel drive cars when moving fast. Ito emphasized the front-wheel drive's advantages in terms of packaging and efficiency. Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus RWD sedans have been reaping a lot of success but Ito said that emulating these other brands is 'meaningless.' Instead he wants to continue pushing into new territory in terms of packaging, technology and efficiency, with new engines and transmissions for its medium and large-sized sedans - especially hybrids. Last fall, Honda announced the availability of a manual transmission in the SH-AWD 2010 Acura TL alongside a pair of new V6 engines, placing the Acura in the same level as the Audi. Acura has not fully embraced AWD the way Audi has with its quattro system.
