In July, both Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. had record US sales. Hyundai's sales rose by 19% last July with 54,106 vehicles sold, when compared with July 2009. Last month also marked the fourth month ever that Hyundai sales surpassed 50,000 units. Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai's US sales boss, said that Hyundai will still post sales gains even as consumer confidence declines.
In a statement, Zuchowski said that consumer demand "continues to significantly out-strip product availability at Hyundai dealerships." He said that Hyundai is still "very bullish" about prospects for the remaining months of the year as it considerably increases production to boost vehicle supply while launching four new products within the next five months. The sales boost in July is mainly attributed to the rise in demand for the redesigned Sonata sedan, and the Elantra. In July, demand for the new Tuscon SUV more than tripled to nearly 3,700 units.
Hyundai sales for the first seven months of 2010 were higher by 24% compared to the same period in 2009. Kia was also reported a new sales record for July, which was also its second-best sales month ever by selling 35,419 vehicles in July, 21% higher than July 2009 sales. The brand's top seller is Kia's 2011 Sorento crossover with more than 9,000 units sold. It is trailed by the Soul subcompact, with sales of 8,020 units in July, up by 65% increase than July 2009. Kia's sales for the first seven months of 2010 are 16.3% higher than the same period in 2009.
