The Blue-Will is Hyundai's plug-in hybrid that the company unwrapped ahead of its introduction next week at the Seoul Motor Show. The show car utilizes a non-turbocharged variant of the 1.6-liter direct-injection gasoline unit which was first seen in the Hyundai Ix-Onic Concept at the recent Geneva Motor Show. It is paired with a 100kW electric unit and the energy is channelled through a CVT gearbox.
Power storage is a lithium ion polymer batter pack which highlights battery technology like the one employed in the new Hyundai Elantra hybrid, a first for this kind of energy storage in a mass produced car. For the engine cover and interior components the Blue-Will concept utilizes bio-plastics that come from plant material and recycled plastic for the headlight bezels.
The sun roof doubles as a solar panel that aids to power the car's supplementary electric systems. Although there is currently no plan to produce the Blue-Will concept, it nevertheless demonstrates the company's direction with regards to its hybrid technology, said a spokesman for the Korean carmaker.
