The South Korean carmaker Hyundai has officially began accepting orders for it very first hybrid model dubbed the Elantra LPI HEV, ahead of the car's July 8 release. It is considered as the first hybrid electric vehicle to be powered by a Liquefied Petroleum Injected (LPI) powerplant, the Elantra LPI HEV drivetrain includes a 1.6-liter LPG unit, a 15kW and 105Nm electric unit and a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
It is claimed by Hyundai that the carbon dioxide emissions rate of the Elantra LPI HEV is only 99g/km and about 90 percent fewer emissions compared to a corresponding standard gasoline-powered model.
The fuel consumption of the mild-hybrid vehicle is 17.8km/liter or 22.2km/liter for a gasoline conversion which is 52.2mpg and 4.5-liter/100km, corresponding to a 47 percent boost above a regular 1.6-liter automatic.
