Hyundai’s fuel efficiel fleet coming in 2015

Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive Chassis

Scrapping the 2020 schedule to get its fleet fuel efficient (up to 35 mpg), Hyundai has decided to aim for 2015 instead. This decision will give the Korean automaker several advantages, including receiving credits for leading in the curve. Maybe more significantly at this time that Democrats are in control of both the Congress and the White House, there is a compelling prospect that California may win its waiver for CO2 restrictions from the EPA. If that occurs, Hyundai and all the others will have to get well above 35 mpg. By aiming at that level by the middle of the decade, Hyundai will be a lot nearer to the stricter requirements.

Blue Drive is the official designation of Hyundai's strategy to get to 35 mpg. Scheduled to open in 2009, Blue Drive will launch new "Blue" versions of the Accent and Elantra that will get superior fuel efficiency at a lower price tag in contrast to the present variants.

And in 2010 Hyundai's hybrid system will be introduced in the future generation Sonata together with a battery of lithium-polymer. At roughly the same instance a new CUV patterned on the HED-5 concept will begin manufacture with a fresh 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection motor. In the years that follow, reduced sized turbo direct injection motors will also be observed in other Hyundai versions.
